Having impressed in his rookie season on the European Tour in 2014, he won twice in consecutive appearances in 2015, first at the D+D REAL Czech Masters in August and then a fortnight later at the KLM Open. He produced a brilliant finish to win his third European Tour title at the 2016 Made in Denmark, sinking three birdie putts on the final three holes to secure the victory by 1 shot. A 2nd place finish the week earlier at the D+D REAL Czech Masters in Prague, and 4th at the Olympic Men’s Golf Competition in Rio de Janeiro earned the young Belgian one of 2016 Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke’s wildcard picks. He did not disappoint at Hazeltine, playing every match, finishing 4-1-0, to become the first European rookie to earn four points, and also the first rookie to be the outright top points scorer on either side since 1979. Long tipped as one of the stars of the future, he came through all three stages of the 2013 Qualifying School, taking the 20th card at the Final Stage. Thomas met his current coach Pete Cowen while still still in high school in Belgium. He then had a celebrated amateur college career in America, where he overcame Major Champion Jordan Spieth and former world amateur No.1 Patrick Cantlay to win the NCAA Division I Golf Championship in his sophomore year at the University of Illinois. Started playing golf at the same time as the rest of his family aged five after his parents played on holiday in South Africa.
