Q&A

Below you can read my thoughts on a variety of topics. If there’s a question you want to ask, just fill in the form and I’ll try to answer.

Thanks!

If you could travel back in time, when and where would you go?

I’d love to rewind to September 2016. I will be forever grateful for my week at the Ryder Cup in Minnesota.

Favourite course you've played on the European Tour?

Carnoustie Schotland is now the most unique one I played so far. It’s beautiful and it’s challenging for every players game. Outside of the European Tour, I’d pick Pebble Beach - every hole has something special on that course.

What’s your best Callaway club in the bag?

My new roque driver for sure! I always enjoy hitting a long drive.

How many hours a week do you spend in the gym?

I have a workout schedule that works around the tournaments. In order to stay fit and grow stronger, I do 5 to 6 workouts a week, supervised by my physio.

What’s your longest recorded drive?

+/- 420 yards during the NH Collection Open in Spain in 2014.

What went through your mind during the play-off with Jimenez at the Spanish Open?

To be honest, not much. I was just thinking about trying to win the tournament.

Do you prefer to hit a draw or fade with your driver? What about irons?

I prefer a straight ball-flight with my driver, and I like to fade my irons.

What would you have done for a living if golf didn't work out?

I have no idea, I never had a plan B. I had/wanted to make a golf career, failing in it was never an option. If I think about it now I must have gone for :
Professional snowboarding.

What do you eat on the course?

A healthy nut mix, banana or apples, a sandwich and the occasional Haribo candy for when I’m low on sugar… or for when I just want candy.

What are your goals for 2016?

To complete a rubics’ cube under 2 minutes. No, seriously, I’d rather not share this with anyone. I’m not concentrating on World ranking or Race to Dubai ranking though. A better ranking comes together with good results.

Who would you choose for your dream 4-ball?

Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Michael Jordan

What is your lowest official round?

62 in the third round of the 2015 KLM Open and 62 in the third round of the Turkish Airlines Open 2018.

What’s your most memorable putt?

My final putt at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational during college: 14 feet, downhill, left-to-right for birdie, which in the end gave me the win. I’ll also always remember the putt that came back to my feet during the play-off at the Open de España against Jimenez.

Which shot are you particularly proud of?

My first hole in one on tour at the 12th - WGC HSBC CHAMPIONS in Shanghai 2018

Ever made a hole in one?

Yes. My first one was on the 6th Hole (190y / 174m) at Cherry Hills Country Club during the 2nd Round of the 2012 US Amateur Match Play against Albin Choi. The second one was more recently on the 13the Hole (215y / 197m) at Albatross Golf Resort on Pro-Am Wednesday of the 2015 Czech Masters. The first one I made during a professional competition was in 2018 during the WGC HSBC CHAMPIONS on the 12th hole.

How does a tournament day look like for you?

Some of it depends on my tee time. But, I usually go to the gym in the morning, head to the golf course, then stretch, eat, and sleep afterwards.

How important is distance in your game?

It is important, but hitting it straight is more important. But, when I play courses that are more open it definitely gives me an advantage hitting shorter clubs into the greens.

What did you study in college?

I studied Sports Management at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana (USA) from 2010 to 2013, while also being part of the golf team.
